Ashley T. Griggs - Founder & Managing Member

General Background:  Prior to founding Counsel Solutions LLC, Ashley was an Experienced Manager with the Legal Business Consulting Team of Arthur Andersen. At Arthur Andersen, Ashley headed the Discovery Management Process & Technology practice. He is an expert in discovery management products and technology.

Ashley has over 10 years of experience in the utilization of technology in litigation. His experience ranges from managing the development of a litigation support database product, to implementing collaborative discovery management repository solutions for multi-party, multi-state disputes. He has had experience in many types of litigation including environmental, royalty, products liability and tobacco.

He has helped law firms and law departments develop optimized processes and methodologies for the discovery function on both case specific and enterprise levels. The utmost benefit coming to his clients through integration of these processes with standardized technology solutions.

Ashley has performed numerous discovery system selections and implementations, ranging from simple solutions to complex client-server based systems. His technology and software development background coupled with his deep knowledge of the discovery process enables him to select the best solutions based on his clients functional needs and the underlying technology.

Ashley has spent considerable time researching the issues surrounding electronic discovery and ways to decrease the risks organizations face. He has developed solutions which can greatly reduce the risk of sweeping electronic discovery, charges of spoliation, email, forensic analysis and unknown data.

A detailed professional history follows:

Ashley graduated from Iona College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Sciences.

In 1988 Ashley began his employ as a software developer with DocuFind Corporation (then Emanuel Data Systems, Inc.). DocuFind Corporation was the producer of the DocuFind full text retrieval, litigation support database system for Unix and Dos. In 1990 Ashley became the Senior Software Developer, and was responsible for the design, development, testing and support of both the Unix and Dos products. In 1990 DocuFind was one of the first litigation support databases to completely integrate imaging, including scanning and “code from image” .

In 1991 Arthur Andersen acquired DocuFind Corporation and began to develop a DocuFind for Windows (DFW) product. Ashley continued to manage the support of the Unix and Dos based products, develop custom solutions, and serve as an advisor on the DFW design team. Ashley developed the entire search, retrieval, and IO suite of functions for the DFW product. Upon release of the DFW product Ashley became the manager of client support and implementation.

In 1994 Ashley was named product manager for the DocuFind product. He was responsible for the development, support, and overall management of the product. Additionally, he provided consultation on implementation and database design strategies to clients of Arthur Andersen.

In 1995 Arthur Andersen formed a Research and Development Team for their Legal Information Consulting practice. Ashley was one of the three managers charged with the development of this team. While continuing in his role as product manager for DocuFind, Ashley was also involved in the development of customized products and workflow solutions for Arthur Andersen’s document processing centers as well as for their clients. Ashley was responsible for the design, development and implementation of a customized scanning and coding application which was utilized for millions of pages in the Tobacco litigation. Ashley also managed the development of the custom toolset which was used to review, renumber, and print productions in that litigation.

In 1997 Arthur Andersen formed a regional Legal Business Consulting team in Houston, and Ashley became a part of this team. This team concentrated on the development and implementation of business solutions for the legal profession. Ashley’s concentration was on the litigation support and discovery function. Through development of a standardized approach, with appropriate selection and integration of technology, his clients have been able to perform more efficiently, timely, and with greater effectiveness.

In 1999, Ashley formed Counsel Solutions LLC to help legal professionals reap these same benefits at a reduced cost and with greater flexibility.
